Guider

what is it?

An app that connects university students with their ideal mentors—experienced working professionals—offering a one of a kind, in-person mentorship experience!

Goal: Guider aims to empower students by providing them with the mentorship and exposure needed to make informed career decisions, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling professional journey.

• Design and Prototyping: Sketch, InVision, Balsamiq, Whimsical
• Graphic Design: Adobe Photoshop

  • Problem Identification: Addressing the gap between academic learning and real-world application.

  • Research: Analyzing the market and gathering user insights through surveys and interviews.

  • Design and Prototyping: Crafting a user-friendly interface, cohesive branding, and testing prototypes with users.

  • Finalization: Refining the product based on feedback and preparing for launch.

Development Process:

  • In-Person Mentorship: Students shadow professionals to gain firsthand workplace experience.

  • Mutual Benefits: Students receive guidance, while mentors are compensated for their time.

  • Certification: Students earn a company-issued certificate, boosting their career credentials.

Unique Features:

  • Profile Creation: Students create profiles with their academic background, career goals, and interests.

  • Mentor Browsing: Students explore curated mentor profiles showcasing expertise and roles.

  • Application: Students submit requests to mentors, outlining their goals and motivations.

  • Mentor Selection: Mentors review requests and choose mentees, fostering meaningful connections.

How Guider Works:

Unlike traditional mentorship programs, Guider offers an immersive in-person experience, enabling students to observe and participate in the professional environment. The session-based system, measured hourly, ensures flexibility and structure for both mentors and mentees.

What Sets Guider Apart:

  1. University Students: Both those uncertain about their career choices and those confident in their paths can benefit from Guider. The platform offers clarity for the unsure and valuable industry connections for the assured.

  2. Industry Professionals: Companies open to mentoring and allowing students to shadow their professionals can leverage Guider to identify and nurture potential future talent.

Target Users:

Many university students are unsure about their career paths, leading to stress, program changes, and potential dissatisfaction. Research shows 80% of young adults feel unclear and overwhelmed about career decisions. Guider helps by offering mentorship experiences to build clarity and confidence before committing to a career.

After developing user personas from my research, I focused on the app's information architecture, encompassing the content model, sitemap, and user flows. This structure ensures an intuitive and efficient user experience.

Designing interfaces for various parts of the app took time and careful effort. To refine the experience, I conducted user A/B testing to identify the most effective designs.

LOW - MEDIUM FIDELITY
In the initial iteration using Balsamiq, I focused on establishing the foundational layouts for key screens, including registration, login, and onboarding. Subsequent iterations involved exploring various layout styles, adjusting element sizes, and experimenting with button designs to enhance the user experience.
